This month, international chain Burger King added the meatless Veggie Bean Burger to all of its locations in Malta. The new option is made with a red bean-based vegan patty that is coated with breadcrumbs, topped with lettuce, tomato, ketchup, dairy cheese, and mayonnaise (the latter two items can be omitted for a fully vegan burger), and served on a vegan sesame seed bun. “After receiving requests for a vegetarian product and always having our customers at heart, Burger King Malta launched the Veggie Bean Burger on the 1st of May,” Ivan Cardona, franchise manager of Burger King, told local media outlet Lovin Malta. “We are very excited to launch the Veggie Bean Burger and to respond to the market by introducing a vegetarian product,” Cardona said. “We strongly believe that Burger King should be a brand that everybody can enjoy, and the launch of this product is key to this.” Stateside, Burger King began its nationwide expansion of the Impossible Whopper last week, bringing the plant-based burger (ordered vegan without cheese and mayonnaise) to three more cities (Miami, FL, Montgomery, AL, and Columbus, GA) outside of its initial test market in St. Louis, MO.
