The first-ever National Oat Milk Day will occur on May 16 to celebrate and promote the new and abundantly available plant-based beverage. On that day, vegan beverage company Califia Farms will encourage people to make the switch from dairy milk to oat milk by providing free oat-based coffee drinks at select cafés in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, alongside nationally available digital promotions. Coffee drinkers are encouraged to visit participating coffee shops and ask for a Califia Oatmilk Coffee of their choice to receive a free drink (until supplies last) using Califia’s new Oat Barista Blend—which is made with gluten-free rolled oats from North America and contains no gums or stabilizers. On the east coast, Califia’s exclusive café partner is Gregory’s Coffee. “At Califia, we have products for everyone at every stage of their wellness journey that are better for people, better for the environment, and definitely better on taste. We’ve now created a line based specifically around oat to give people more options and meet the skyrocketing demand for dairy-free alternatives,” Califia Farms CEO Greg Steltenpohl said. “By celebrating the first-ever Oat Milk Day, we hope to inspire more people to go plant-based, realize its benefits, and that dairy-free can truly taste delicious.” Last year, Califia raised $50 million in capital—including an undisclosed amount from actor Leonardo DiCaprio—to expand the production capacity of its vegan cold-brew coffee beverages, yogurts, creamers, and milks.
