McDonald’s does not have plans to add vegan breakfast options to its United Kingdom locations, a representative for the chain confirmed to VegNews. In mid-July, Vegan Food UK and subsequent reports teased that a vegan breakfast could be in the works at McDonald’s UK after employees at a location in Hull, England told the vegan page that their managers were preparing to train them for the launch of vegan breakfast items. While breakfast is off the table for now, McDonald’s has added several vegan options to a number of its locations abroad in recent months, including the McVegan burger at Nordic locations, The Big Vegan TS in Germany (coming to Israel locations in August), and a vegan Happy Meal option (along with an adult-sized vegan spicy chicken wrap) in the UK. Stateside, the chain has been hesitant to innovate its menu due to what CEO Steve Easterbrook calls “additional complexity” of introducing new vegan items, despite a petition signed by more than 226,000 people urging the chain to add at least one vegan menu option.
