Upscale vegan restaurant Mythology recently opened in Toronto, ON. Located in “Vegandale”—a collection of vegan businesses within the city’s Parkdale neighborhood—Mythology takes over the space of the former Mythology Diner, which was known for its vegan comfort food. The location has been transformed into an elevated dining experience for intimate dinners and late-night cocktails. The menu—created by award-winning chef Doug McNish—features dishes such as Mushroom Ravioli with porcini cream sauce, wild mushroom, green peas, hazelnut crumb, baby greens, garlic chips, truffled lemon vinaigrette, and porcini dust; and Coq Au Vin with braised seitan chicken, confit garlic mash, pastrami carrots, rapini, and prune demi glaze. The menu will also include a vegan take on a classic charcuterie board, featuring mushroom pâté and lemon ash cashew goat cheese, and desserts such as Spiced Chocolate Cake with Thai basil, cacao moonrocks, mandarin glass, and candied pecans. “I wanted to take my years of classical high-end chef training and use a modern vegan spin to create stand-out dishes,” McNish said. “The menu is small and focused, which allows the kitchen to pay attention to every detail. On it, you will see influences of French, Mediterranean, Italian, and even Japanese cuisine. Vegan or not, my goal has always been to show people that this style of cuisine has its place in gastronomy, and not only do you not lose or miss out on anything, but, rather, become enamoured at what can be done with plants.” Mythology will be open Thursdays to Sundays for dinner service and will offer brunch in the coming weeks.
