Israeli-based food technology company Redefine Meat recently completed a $6 million seed funding round led by CPT Capital, Hanaco Ventures, PHW Group (Germany’s largest poultry company), and Israeli angel investors. The startup is working to develop animal-free meat using proprietary industrial 3D printers using its patent-pending technology and plant-based ingredients to replicate the texture, flavor, and experience of beef and other meat products. According to Redefine Meat, its products have a 95-percent smaller environmental impact, no cholesterol, and are more affordable compared to animal meat. The startup will use the new investment to finalize the development of its revolutionary alternative-meat 3D printer which will be released in 2020. “We have already successfully printed great products for multiple foodie events,” Redefine Meat co-founder and CEO Eshchar Ben-Shitrit said. “Over the coming year, we will take the technology to the next level where we expect to make a huge impact on the meat market and the future of our planet.” The company hopes to eventually give meat distributors and retailers the ability to design animal-free meat products that cater to food trends, changing demands, and consumers preferences, in a cost-effective and scalable way.
