In September, meat brand Perky Jerky will launch a vegan line of jerky at select retailers, including Whole Foods Market. The new line is made in collaboration with plant-based company Improved Nature—which was founded by Rody Hawkins, a former meat scientist who invented Lunchables in 1986 and worked to improve the shelf life of Slim Jim. The vegan jerky—made using a soy base, purified water, and Improved Nature’s proprietary technology—will be available in two flavors: Sea Salt & Pepper and Tasty Teriyaki. “We are very excited to partner with Perky Jerky for this new product line because they already have an excellent reputation in the industry,” Hawkins said. “Together, we have been able to produce a delicious plant-based protein jerky product that will satisfy even the most discerning jerky eater. The best part [is that] our products are not only good for you, but they’re also good for the planet.”
