Vegan ice cream bars made by Canadian brand Daiya Foods are now available at 28 Costco locations in the Pacific Northwest region, with a debut at Los Angeles Costcos scheduled for February, and a nationwide rollout in the works. Costco now offers the brand’s chocolate-enrobed Classic Vanilla Bean Dessert Bars in a 10-pack for $9.99. “Plant-based food is evolving and growing as more consumers are making conscious choices to embrace both a healthier planet and a more mindful lifestyle.” Daiya Vice President of Marketing Dan Hua told VegNews. “Expanding our distribution into Costco will help us in our goal to make delicious plant-based foods more accessible to consumers.” In 2018, Daiya debuted its coconut milk-based bars in four flavors: Classic Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Fudge Crunch, Espresso Coffee, and Salted Caramel Swirl which are also available at retailers such as Kroger in a 3-pack for $6.79 each. In 2020 alone, Costco has added several new vegan dairy alternatives to its shelves, including Chao Creamery vegan cheese (available in the Midwest, Southwest, Texas, and Ontario, Canada regions) and Miyoko’s Creamery vegan butter (available at Northern California locations).
