This week, international chain Pret a Manger launched its first vegan croissant at all of its locations across the United Kingdom. Part of the chain’s new 2020 menu, the Very Berry Croissant uses vegan margarine and sunflower oil to create the texture of a traditional croissant and is filled with a berry compote and topped with coarse sugar. “Over the past couple of years we’ve worked hard to bring new vegan and veggie options to our menu,” Pret Global Head of Food Innovation Hannah Dolan said. “The launch of The Vegan Classics in Veggie Pret has been a real success, but we knew from talking to our customers that it was time to bring more options to the breakfast menu. The Very Berry Croissant is just the beginning—we are looking forward to sharing more plant-based innovations with customers in 2020.” Pret a Manger also announced that it has added oat milk to its plant-based milk options for barista-prepared hot and cold drinks and dropped its surcharge on plant-based milks. Last fall, Pret a Manger launched a new line of vegan sandwiches at its United Kingdom-based vegetarian outpost Veggie Pret.
