On October 16, famed vegan chef Matthew Kenney will open new vegan restaurant SUTRA in the Flatiron District of New York City. Created in partnership with wellness and activewear brand Alo Yoga, the mostly raw, plant-based restaurant will be located on the top floor of Alo’s Sanctuary. The full-service, fine-dining eatery will feature a nourishing, health-forward menu with dishes such as a vegan cheese plate with crackers and fermented vegetables, carrot and zucchini pasta, a beet poke bowl, and golden milk and coconut cream pie. The restaurant will initially open for lunch Wednesday through Sunday, and will be adding breakfast, dinner, and a full bar in the coming weeks.

“This restaurant is a dream come true. A hideaway in plain sight overlooking 5th Avenue, that serves fine-dining raw cuisine. I couldn’t imagine anything better,” Kenney said. “Working with Alo allows for the intersection of wellness, yoga, and food—it’s what Matthew Kenney Cuisine is all about. Promoting a healthier lifestyle is our mission. Many years ago, a psychic told me I would own a business with views of the Flatiron building in New York. When I stepped onto the rooftop patio at SUTRA, I knew it, this was the place.”

The opening of SUTRA is just one of many MKC restaurants arriving this year, including Hungry Angelina in Brooklyn, NY, a second location of NYC pasta bar SESTINA in Los Angeles, and BAIA and Woodblock in San Francisco. Kenney also plans to open a restaurant at the One & Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico, a wellness-inspired concept at AYRE in Palm Beach, FL, along with several Hungry Angelina and Double Zero locations nationwide.
