During the month of January, Orlando’s historic Milk District neighborhood is turning into “The Almond Milk District” in an effort to promote plant-based food. During the month, 15 businesses in the district—which is centered around T.G. Lee Dairy, a major milk producer in Florida—will be promoting plant-based foods and beverages, along with cruelty-free beauty products. A variety of businesses are participating, including Valhalla Bakery (which offers a variety of vegan cupcakes, cakes, and cookies); Dharma Fine Vittles (which serves vegan comfort food such as fried chicken, barbecue sandwiches, and hot dogs); and Drunken Monkey (a coffee shop with many vegan options).

“As meat alternatives rise sharply in popularity across the country, it’s important to know that our local, independent businesses have long been leaders in this sector,” Milk District Executive Director Zac Alfson said in a statement. “By promoting these options, it lets those among the estimated one-third of Americans who are replacing meat with other options at least once a week know that they are welcome, and have plenty of choices, in the Milk District.”
