Today, vegan author and public health nutritionist Tracye McQuirter is soft-launching an online program to help 10,000 Black women go vegan this year. The program, called 10,000 Black Vegan Women, aims to help change the health paradigm of Black women, as African Americans experience the highest rates of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer in the United States. Launched in celebration of the 10th anniversary of McQuirter’s first book, By Any Greens Necessary, the program supports women’s diet change through a series of 21-day “Fresh Starts,” which include online video training, meal plans, vegan recipes, grocery shopping lists, meal prep guides, and nutrition tips. “We are leaders in so many progressive ways, but we are in a crisis when it comes to our health—and while there are many reasons for this, we have the power to take back control of our health,” McQuirter said. “It’s about our greens, not our genes! Eating affordable, nutritious, and delicious plant-based foods is one of the best ways for us to get healthy now and for the rest of our lives.” Participants who sign up now will receive a free two-day vegan jumpstart program, which includes a meal plan, recipes, a grocery shopping list, and cooking tips, along with inspiring emails over the next 90 days leading up to the official launch of the program in May.
