Today, Israel-based cultured meat startup Aleph Farms announced the opening of its visitor center. The complex will allow delegations of 15 to 20 people to explore how Aleph Farms produces slaughter-free steaks using a small amount of cells from a cow, serving the company’s mission of being transparent about its production practices. “Trust is a cornerstone value of Aleph Farms and we mean it,” Didier Toubia, CEO and co-founder of Aleph Farms, said. “We felt transparency was needed, as consumers want to know where their food comes from and how it is produced.” Additionally, the company announced the launch of its “Z-Board,” an advisory group comprised entirely of young Generation Z (born between 1995 to 2015) leaders from all continents who will participate in nine-month programs to help the company grow its mission of developing an equitable food system. “The Z-Board provides a unique idea-exchange platform, to make sure Aleph Farms is building the right future for our children,” Toubia said. 

After securing a $12 million in Series A funding in 2019, Aleph Farms—in collaboration with several other companies—was able to grow a 3D-cultured beef steak on the International Space Station just outside of the Earth’s orbit, approximately 248 miles from any natural resources, to demonstrate the eco-efficiency of growing meat without raising (or killing) cows. Tours of the visitor center are fully booked through April 2020 but those wishing to visit Aleph Farms in the future are encouraged to apply at, with priority given to student delegations, academic organizations, and non-governmental and non-profit organizations.
