Brooklyn Borough President, Mercy for Animals Give Out 2,000 Vegan Meals to Most Vulnerable New Yorkers Amid COVID-19

Brooklyn Borough President and vegan Eric Adams recently partnered with animal-rights organization Mercy For Animals (MFA) and other community partners to distribute 2,000 vegan meals to food-insecure Brooklynites. The meals were purchased by MFA from nine local vegan restaurants in an effort to help them stay in business as the city’s economy suffers during the coronavirus pandemic.

MFA purchased and distributed meals such as Scramburritos from Brooklyn Whiskers Bakery; vegan chicken sandwiches and mac and cheese from Champs Diner; Shepherd’s pie and penne from Bar Velo; tofu scramble and mac and cheese from Urban Vegan Kitchen; Bandeja Paisa Vegana from VSPOT; Blossom Bowls from Blossom Du Jour; vegan pepperoni pizza from Screamers Pizzeria; kale caesar salad and spicy Thai salad from by CHLOE; and BBQ combo platters from Monk’s Meats.

“Access to healthy, plant-based food has always been a priority of mine, but it is especially important during these difficult times,” Adams told VegNews. “Many Brooklynites are food-insecure, and the spread of coronavirus has made it even more difficult to access food, which is why I was happy to offer this necessity while simultaneously supporting some of my favorite vegan establishments. I want to thank Mercy for Animals and Community Solidarity for partnering with us on this important initiative.”
