New vegan cheese brand Pleese Foods recently launched by New York-based entrepreneurs Kobi and Abev Regev. The cheese comes in shreds and slices in flavors such as Mighty Mozze, Italian Herb and Garlic, Caramelized Onion and Mushroom, Sundried Tomato, and Southwestern Chipotle. Made with a proprietary blend of white beans and potato proteins using traditional methods, the allergen-friendly cheese was created to melt flawlessly on pizza for children who suffer from food sensitivities.

“There are a lot of kids today that are either lactose intolerant or suffer from food sensitivities, and they rarely have delicious food choices available to purchase either at restaurants or in convenience stores,” Kobi Regev told VegNews. “We wanted to create an allergen-friendly plant-based cheese that was so good that kids couldn’t tell the difference, and I’m happy to say that in all our tests we found that when presented with a choice they usually prefer Pleese.” The company’s cheese is currently being tested in pizzerias in Atlanta, GA; California; Chicago, IL; Connecticut; Austin, TX; Queens and Brooklyn, NY; New Jersey; Baltimore, MD; and Boston, MA. It will be available in select restaurants in June, with an online launch to follow in July before the cheese hits retail stores this fall.
