San Antonio, TX-based vegan bakery Southern Roots recently launched a “Back-to-School Box” for children with nut or dairy allergies. For the month of September, the box is available for shipping nationwide. It includes one dozen chocolate chip cookies and four glazed cake doughnuts for $45. The online bakery is offering customers $5 off with the discount code “DONUT.”

“We have people in the family, including our cousin and employee, David, who have nut allergies. My mom also has nut allergies, so I’ve been creating nut-free desserts since I was younger,” Southern Roots co-owner Cara Pitts said. “Additionally, we don’t want to deprive any kids from enjoying our delicious doughnuts and brownies.”

Earlier this year, Southern Roots—which husband-and-wife team Marcus and Cara Pitts launched in 2018—grew its business by 100 percent as people across the country supported Black-owned businesses amid the Black Lives Matter movement.
