Today, food company Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods launched a line of meaty vegan pizza toppings available to food service providers—marking the brand’s first entry into the pizza category. The new line consists of three vegan meat toppings: Pepperoni, Meatless Sausage, and Chick’n Strips, which are available to foodservice providers for purchase in 10-pound cases.

“We’re thrilled to be expanding into the beloved pizza category, and hope to see these new toppings on our favorite pizzas,” Dr. Praeger’s CEO Larry Praeger said. “At Dr. Praeger’s, our mission has always been to provide a wide variety of delicious, clean, accessible, vegetable-focused foods. As the consumer appetite for plant-based protein sources grows, we are here to provide the variety they crave without sacrificing the integrity of our ingredients.”

While the brand is not fully vegan, in recent months, Dr. Praeger’s has been beefing up its vegan product portfolio with the launch of its Perfect Turk’y Burgers and Refrigerated Line—the first non-frozen food line offered by the 25-year-old brand—of burgers in Classic Veggie and Chipotle Black Bean flavors.

Pepperoni goes vegan
This month, vegan brand Field Roast Grain Co. also got into the meaty pizza topping game with the launch of its vegan pepperoni in the North American foodservice sector—with a retail launch to follow. Field Roast’s new Plant-Based Pepperoni is now available on the menu at more than 140 locations of Canadian chain Pizza Nova, the first foodservice provider to feature the new vegan meat topping.
