Fast-food chain Carl’s Jr. is transforming one of its Los Angeles, CA area locations in partnership with Beyond Meat on April 22 (Earth Day). From 6am to 9pm (or while supplies last), the Carl’s Jr. location at 424 W. Los Feliz Rd. in Glendale, CA will serve a meatless Earth Day menu and give away complimentary items made with Beyond Meat (limit four per customer). VegNews has reached out for additional details about the items offered and if they can be ordered fully plant-based.

“We are excited to give our fans a fun, delicious way to celebrate Earth Day this year with a full plant-based meat experience at Carl’s Jr.,” Patty Trevino, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing at Carl’s Jr. parent company CKE Restaurants, said. “With nearly one-third of consumers identifying as flexitarian, we continue to innovate on new ways for our guests to enjoy our iconic charbroiled burgers with our Beyond Meat partnership.”

For customers who cannot visit the Los Angeles location, Carl’s Jr. is offering any meatless Beyond Burger option for a discounted $5 each (with coupon) on Earth Day at participating locations nationwide. “As leaders in plant-based innovation, we are thrilled to partner with Carl’s Jr. to bring this unique pop-up experience to life,” Beth Moskowitz, Chief Creative Officer at Beyond Meat, said. “This Earth Day initiative increases accessibility to a variety of delicious, nutritious, and sustainable offerings that Carl’s Jr. fans will love.”

Beyond Meat at Carl’s Jr.

In 2019, Carl’s Jr. partnered with Beyond Meat to launch the Beyond Famous Star at its more than 1,000 locations across the United States. The burger is made with a vegan Beyond Burger patty topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, sliced onion, dill pickle, special sauce, and mayonnaise and served on a sesame seed bun—ordered vegan by omitting cheese and mayonnaise. Later that year, the chain also expanded the meatless burger to its Canadian locations. CKE Restaurant brand Hardee’s also added Beyond Meat items to its menu in 2019, including the The Beyond Thickburger and Beyond Sausages on a biscuit.

To date, Carl’s Jr. has sold nearly 12 million meatless Beyond Famous Star burgers.

Correction April 16, 2021: An earlier version of this article stated that this location of Carl’s Jr. would be entirely meat free. However, VegNews has learned that customers can still order animal-derived meat at this location.
