On April 28, fast-food chain Dunkin’ is further expanding its dairy-free milk options with the addition of coconut milk to its menu at more than 9,000 locations nationwide. The chain will offer coconut milk as a dairy substitute in any beverage and feature the new dairy-free milk in a Coconut Milk Iced Latte and three summer-ready Dunkin’ Coconut Refreshers: Pink Strawberry (strawberry dragon fruit); Golden Peach (peach passion fruit); and Purple Pomegranate (blueberry pomegranate). To promote the launch, Dunkin’ will offer medium-sized coconut milk Refreshers for a discounted price of $3 until May 25.

“The start of the summer season is the perfect time to expand our menu with coconut milk, another exciting non-dairy choice for our guests,” Jill Nelson, Vice President of Marketing & Culinary at Dunkin’, said. “From our colorful Dunkin’ Coconut Refreshers to our creamy Coconutmilk Iced Latte, Dunkin’ is crafting the coolest coconut milk beverages to keep our guests refreshed and running, throughout summer and all year-long.”

Coconut milk is the latest dairy-free option to join the Dunkin’ menu following the launch of oat milk at its more than 9,000 locations last August. Made by Planet Oat, the oat milk is available as part of Dunkin’s new Iced Oatmilk Latte, as well as a variety of hot and cold drinks and as a substitute to any milk option (additional charges may apply). Dunkin’ has also offered almond milk since 2014—two years before Starbucks added the dairy-free option to its menu.

Vegan doughnuts at Dunkin?

Dunkin’ does offer vegan doughnuts but, unfortunately, not yet in the United States. This month, the international chain added 41 vegan doughnut flavors to its menu in the Netherlands and Belgium with fun options such as Pistachio, Cinnamon Swirls, Double Stuffed Strawberry, and one vegan doughnut that resembles the Cookie Monster. “A select number of Dunkin’ international locations in Europe are currently testing vegan doughnuts,” a Dunkin’ spokesperson told VegNews. “In the US, Dunkin’ continues to explore new ways we can bring additional plant-based, vegetarian, and vegan-friendly options to our guests.”

While doughnuts have yet to hit the Dunkin’ menu stateside, the chain has increased its vegan-friendly breakfast offerings in recent years. In 2019, the chain launched the Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich—which can be ordered vegan by omitting the cheese and egg—at all Dunkin’ locations nationwide. This year, Dunkin’ further bulked up its meatless options with the vegetarian Southwest Veggie Power Breakfast Sandwich (a limited-time sandwich made with a vegan MorningStar Farms Black Bean Patty, an egg white omelet, dairy-based white cheddar cheese, and is served on a multigrain thin bun) and vegan Dunkin’ Avocado Toast (toasted sourdough bread topped with smashed avocado, sea salt, and black pepper, which is then sprinkled with Everything Bagel Seasoning made from sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion, and garlic).
