Elephant trainer Hugo Label, of the Liebel Family Circus, is scheduled to bring his elephant Nosey to the Williams County Fair on September 14 to give attendees rides. Citing Liebel’s tainted past of elephant mistreatment and neglect, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is protesting his appearance and asking residents to contact the fair’s organizers and request that they cancel the elephant rides. According to PETA, earlier this year Liebel was forced to pay $7,500 due to numerous Animal Welfare Act violations, which included not providing Nosey with the necessary medical care and keeping her confined with chains that restricted her movement.
