The 30 Rock Actor says that SeaWorld’s inhumane treatment of animals should disbar it from the annual Parade.

Actor Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria wrote a letter to Macy’s CEO Terry J. Lundgren earlier this month, protesting the possible appearance of a SeaWorld float in the much-anticipated Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Baldwin joins the growing list of people criticizing the aquatic theme park for its inhumane confinement of animals and the toll it takes on their mental and physical well-being. The 30 Rock actor cited the CNN documentary Blackfish, released earlier this year, which exposed the dark side behind SeaWorld’s family-friendly façade, and the numerous animals who have suffered for human entertainment. “Thanks to the documentary Blackfish … the public knows that SeaWorld is a cruel prison for whales,” write the Baldwins. “At least 35 orcas and dozens of dolphins have died prematurely at SeaWorld parks, which should not be celebrated with a giant Shamu float parading down 34th Street.”
