Animal Exhibitor Cited for Multiple Violations

Following a complaint by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the US Department of Agriculture has charged animal exhibitor Lancelot Kollman with numerous Animal Welfare Act violations. One of the charges was a failure to feed and provide proper veterinary care to a 22-year-old elephant, who was taken into custody by the USDA in 2008 and died in a sanctuary soon after. Kollman also failed to provide veterinary care to big cats that were in his possession and he operated as an animal dealer without the proper licensure. According to PETA, Kollman has been charged with animal mistreatment in the past, and in 2009 his exhibitor’s license was taken away. Due to the outstanding number of AWA violations, Kollman may potentially have to pay up to $500,000 in fines.
