Australia’s First Vegetarian Butcher is a Hit

Chef Suzy Spoon has more than 20 years of experience preparing veg cuisine and whipping up meals as Tobey Maguire’s personal chef; it seems only natural for Spoon to transition from selling her handmade fare at a local market to setting up her own vegetarian butchery. Spoon’s Vegetarian Butcher, Australia’s first meat-free butcher shop, opened in September in Enmore and is popular both with walk-in customers and online orders. Spoon’s currently offers seven of Suzy’s meatless products including Sunday Sausage and Vienna-style Schnitzel, and 13 vegetarian products from other companies ranging from desserts and condiments to vegan cheese. Spoon’s Vegetarian Butcher is in talks to expand and stock its products in other stores in the future.
