Carl Palmer of the British rock band Asia recently went meat-free after suffering an infection caused by E. coli. The drummer had to cancel a string of shows during Asia’s 30th anniversary tour and spent eight weeks in the hospital. E. coli infections are commonly caused by consuming undercooked ground beef. Palmer says the source of the bacteria was a casino in New York, and the treatment consisted of painfully large antibiotic pills. The experience has left its mark on the rocker. “I don’t eat any dairy, cheese, milk … fish and meat taste wrong to me,” he told classicrockrevisited.com.
