Chipotle’s Vegan Sofritas Now Served in All of CA
Following the success of the tofu-based option in Northern California, Chipotle patrons in the southern part of the Golden State will also be able to indulge in sofritas.

The fast food Mexican chain Chipotle recently announced that its Southern California locations will serve the new tofu sofritas filling in burritos, tacos, and salads. The sofritas—which are made with organic tofu from Oakland-based company Hodo Soy Beanery, chiles, roasted poblanos, and spices—were first served at Bay Area Chipotle locations earlier this year. The unprecedented popularity of the plant-based option prompted the restaurant to expand sofritas availability to all of Northern California within a few months. “Sofritas is a very different kind of menu item, not just for Chipotle but for any fast food or fast casual restaurant,” says founder and co-CEO, Steve Ells. “It was conceived with vegetarians and vegans in mind, but it’s so delicious that we think it will have crossover appeal as well.”
