Class Action Lawsuit Filed against Perdue Farms

The poultry producer will face litigation after misleading consumers by falsely labeling chicken as “humane.”

The Humane Society of the United States is filing a class action lawsuit against Perdue Farms—one of the largest poultry producers in the US—for false advertising after the company marketed its chicken as “Humanely Raised” to consumers. According to HSUS, Perdue’s chickens were forced to endure inhumane factory farm conditions, which included cruel confinement, transportation in cramped trucks, and subjection to harsh climates without access to food or water. “Perdue has apparently been exploiting the good intentions of its customers and selling them a factory-farmed product dressed up as ‘humane,’” says Jonathan Lovvorn, vice president and chief counsel of Animal Protection Litigation for The HSUS. This is the second class action lawsuit that the animal-welfare organization has brought against Perdue.
