Last week, television actress Emily Deschanel spoke about her cruelty-free diet and her compassionate stance toward animals in an interview with Yahoo TV. The Bones star reported that she first went vegetarian in high school when she learned about the ethical, environmental, and health implications of eating meat, and says that going meat-free was a “win-win-win situation.” From vegetarianism, Deschanel transition to veganism, and since then, she’s been an advocate for minimizing harm to all animals. “I don’t believe that animals are ours to use or to harm,” says the actress. “They feel pain … I don’t think it’s ethically sound to hurt an animal, when it’s perfectly healthy and doable to survive on non-animal sources of food.”
