Fast Food Blues

UK study shows that a poor diet may lead to mental illness.

It seems like a fruit and veggie filled diet is as good for the mind as it is for the body. Researchers at University College London looked at the diets of 3,500 people to see if there was a link between what they ate and whether they developed depression five years later. They found that people who ate mainly processed food had a 58 percent higher risk of developing depression than those who ate a whole-foods diet full of fruits and vegetables. While researchers did not advocate a veg diet (fish is included as a healthy food), processed meats and high-fat dairy were in the junk food category.
