Horse DNA Discovered in Greek Chicken Nuggets

Greece’s Hellenic Food Safety Authority announced that equine DNA was discovered in frozen chicken nuggets and frozen soutzouki (sausage), produced by T&T Foods. Also, The Meat Trades Journal reports that laboratory testing revealed that more than 50 percent of pre-cooked frozen hamburgers made by the food company IFANTIS were also found to contain horse DNA. According to HFSA, subsequent testing of eight different meat samples have not uncovered any phenylbutazone, a drug that is usually administered to horses and can be detrimental to humans, but according to The Grocer, the Greek authorities have had to recall six different products due to their equine content since March 1.
