Due to the recent horsemeat scandal, UK consumers are buying less meat than they used to. Research agency ComRes conducted a survey and found that seven percent of respondents had eschewed meat all together, and The Daily Mail reports that one in four consumers plan to buy less processed meat in response to the mislabeled beef––nearly four million people according to research firm Consumer Intelligence. Sales for Quorn, a company that offers meat alternatives including Chick’n Nuggets and meatless ground-beef replacement, have risen 15 percent. And while The Vegetarian Society quotes only two percent of Britan’s current population as being meat-free, the number of veg Brits is set to quadruple if the trend seen after the scandal continues.
