The European meat market continues its descent into consumer distrust as a new scandal arises in France. According to ft.com, veterinary inspectors found that the UK enterprise Central Food Services shipped 57 tons of lamb meat to the French food processor, Spanghero. The questionable meat uses a processing method that was deemed illegal for cows, goats, and lamb in 2001 due to its inherent risk of contaminating food with Mad Cow disease. Spanghero was recently implicated in the Romanian horsemeat scandal by French authorities, but feigned innocence. The Dutch importer Draap Trading, which supplied Spanghero with the illegal lamb, was also involved in the horse meat debacle.
