Just Mayo Lands Exclusive Deal with Whole Foods

Since it’s inception, the vegan brand Hampton Creek foods has garnered the attention of big business players such as Microsoft maverick Bill Gates and entrepreneur Peter Thiel. Now, Hampton Creek is making major headway in the national market after landing an exclusive deal with Whole Foods Market, a chain with 336 stores that will stock Hampton Creek’s egg- and dairy-free Just Mayo. Bloomberg Businessweek reports that Hampton Creek has had to grow and change its operations to accommodate each regional location’s shipping requirements and individual approval processes. Besides altering its recipe—substituting the preservative calcium disodium EDTA with lemon—the food brand will increase its output from what had been 80,000 pounds of vegan mayonnaise within the last two years to 3.2 million pounds within the next 12 months.
