Los Angeles School System Adopts Meatless Mondays

In an effort to bolster healthful living in children, Los Angeles School District cafeterias have gone completely meatless on Mondays after a resolution was passed by the city council last November. The southern California school system—one of the largest in the country—will serve approximately 650,000 vegetarian meals every week to all students, from kindergarten to 12th grade. Some dishes available to students for breakfast and lunch include Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins, Southwestern Rice and Bean Bowls, and Omega Fruit Cups. The Los Angeles Times notes that this move by the district could help foster awareness of alternative dietary options and animal welfare in kids.
