World Fair Trade Organization is celebrating World Fair Trade Day with more than 800 events in local, small businesses across the country on May 11. The campaign celebrates independent retailers and the principles of fair trade. The events are a collaborative effort between small-scale producers, nonprofits, student organizations, consumers, and advocates, and will include product demonstrations, promotional discounts, and informative video screenings discussing the products we purchase and the people who make them. According to the organization, there are currently more than 10,000 fair trade products on the market, comprising a multi-billion dollar industry. “Fair Trade is a business practice that protects the environment while improving livelihoods,” says Dr. Bronner’s President David Bronner, one of the campaign sponsors.
