Recently, McDonald’s joined the growing fast food, meat-free movement by introducing two vegetarian options at its Canadian locations. “People always ask for the veggie burger,” said John Betts, CEO of McDonald’s Canada, to the National Post. “We’re going to surprise them with [this] … It’s a much more contemporary product, and I think it tastes a lot better.” The Mediterranean and the Santa Fe Veggie Wraps are the first no-meat options to be served at north-of-the-border McDonald’s locations in more than 10 years. In 2002, the veggie burger was taken off Canadian menus due to insufficient sales, but some restaurant business experts note that recent consumer trends forecast a greater chance of success for the new vegetarian additions.
