Musical Meatless Monday, an event featuring musicians and vegan speakers, will be co-hosted by the Black Vegetarian Society of Maryland (BVSMD) and world hunger relief organization A Well-Fed World in Baltimore on May 1. The musical dining experience—during which, guests will be treated to a locally-sourced plant-based meal—will include live performances by local artists as well as students from Northwestern High School. The event will also feature vegan speakers from the The Monday Campaigns, City Weeds, the Humane Society of the United States, and BVSMD, and intends to inspire attendees to leave meat off their plates at least once per week. Our goal is for people to connect with their inner compassion, their soul, when eating, and to understand the important decisions they are making when choosing the foods they eat,” said Naijha Wright-Brown, host and Executive Director of BVSMD. Founded in 2003, the Meatless Monday campaign was designed to bring awareness to the environmental harm caused by animal agriculture, and has since influenced individuals and companies—such as world-famous brothel The Moonlite Bunny Ranch—to reduce the amount of animal products consumed and served.
