In the wake of the recent release of smartphone app Pokémon Go, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has issued a game called Pokémon Black & Blue: Gotta free ‘em all! The object of the game, PETA said, is to “free Pikachu and his Pokémon friends as they struggle for Pokémon liberation.” In the game, Pokémon are forced by their “trainers” to fight each other, but Pikachu escapes from his pokéball cage and must battle his cruel trainer to earn his freedom and free other Pokémon characters from a life of enslavement and violence. Players can use “fight” tactics such as ThunderShock, Group Hug, and Protest to defeat their exploitive captors. Previous PETA spoof video games include Super Chick Sisters, Super Tofu Boy, and Pokémon vs. McDonald’s.
