Kraft Heinz Looks to Invest in Plant-Based Startups

The food corporation launches incubator Springboard Brands to support new companies creating foods of the future.


Food company Kraft Heinz launched last week incubator program Springboard Brands to support emerging food companies, including those that focus on developing plant-based proteins. The incubator is accepting applications from companies that satisfy at least one of four pillars: natural and organic, specialty and craft, health and performance, and experiential brands. Incubator participants will receive $50,000 in funding, guidance from Kraft Heinz mentors and experts, access to tools such as culinary kitchens, and networking opportunities. “We are committed to support and partner with teams that will impact the future of our industry,” Springboard Brands general manager Sergio Eleuterio said. “We are actively searching for emergent, authentic brands that can expand into new categories and are looking to build a network of founders to help shape the future of foods and beverages.” Kraft Heinz joins a number of traditional food companies—including Tyson, General Mills, and Danone—that have created initiatives to financially support new plant-based companies.
