A recently published study conducted by the Weight Management Center at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health reveals that substituting white button mushrooms for meat in one’s daily eating habits can help with weight loss. During the research, a group of obese participants who had an average age of 48.4 years were divided into two groups: the control group ate a standard diet that included meat, and the second group at one cup of mushrooms per day in place of meat. Those who ate the mushrooms lost an average of seven pounds and decreased the circumference of their waistline by 2.6 inches. The findings coincide with previous research that has also revealed the weight-loss benefits of replacing high-energy-density foods such as ground beef with plant-based foods.
