Michael and Victoria Philippou, owners of brick-and-mortar ice cream shop Frozen Fruit Co. in Santa Monica, CA, plan to debut a vegan ice cream truck in Los Angeles this summer. Frozen Fruit Co. makes plant-based ice cream that is completely fruit-based, meaning it does not use creamy bases for its frozen treats. The company’s new ice cream truck will serve scoops in flavors such as passion fruit, Piña Colada, Strawberry Cream, and chocolate (made from cacao, coconut, and dates) in cups, cones, or coconut bowls, with a choice of toppings such as dark chocolate almond butter, nuts, vegan marshmallows, and dark chocolate chips. “Our goal is to change the way people think about ice cream trucks,” Victoria Philippou told VegNews. “We like to think it is like the third wave of ice cream—you’ve had basic scoop trucks, artisan ice cream trucks, and now vegan, plant-based ice cream trucks.” The couple recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to help them finance the new endeavor.
