San Jose, California Gives Up Meat on Mondays
The North California city has taken a healthy and environmentally friendly step with its recent support of Meatless Mondays.
June 9, 2014
Last week, the city of San Jose, CA announced that it will participate in Meatless Mondays as a way to bolster the health of its citizens, improve the environment, and protect the well-being of animals. Many major metropolises and public education systems precede the South Bay town in supporting the weekly vegetarian campaign—last year Los Angeles, San Diego, Compton, and Buffalo, NY, school districts announced that they would only be serving meatless fare on Mondays, and Philadelphia Public Schools recently launched a new Lean and Green campaign that encourages students to follow healthful vegetarian diets. Meatless Monday was conceived more than 10 years ago at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and since then it has gained worldwide renown and is supported by more than 30 countries including Australia, Beligum, Kuwait, Bolivia, Norway and Malaysia.
