In an effort to encourage kids to eat healthier, a San Francisco ban was passed November 2 on free toy giveaways such as Happy Meal toys, driven by the understanding that children should not be rewarded with a toy after choosing an unhealthy option. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted 8 to 3 in favor of the ban, which means that the ban will not be affected by a veto from San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. Supervisor Eric Mar sponsored the proposal, and he has also criticized the lack of vegetables in fast food meals, as well as their high-caloric content.
