A program similar to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s 21-Day Vegan Kickstart, which encourages participants to go vegan by supplying them with plant-based recipes each day for three weeks, is gaining traction in India as a response to the country’s looming health epidemic. According to the Press Trust of India, Bollywood stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Celina Jaitley, and Mallika Sherawat are advocating for the 21-day cruelty-free diet regimen, and American vegan celebrities such as Alicia Silverstone are lending their support by providing their favorite recipes. “India faces a health crisis like never before,” said Doctor Neal Barnard of the PCRM. “Traditional plant-based diets are being swamped by meat and processed foods, dairy product consumption is rising, and these unhealthy foods are driving obesity and diabetes rates through the roof.”
