Meet diabetes’ newest nemesis—your vegan diet! With more than one in 10 American adults already dealing with the disease, discovering an antidote for diabetes ranks right up there with finding a cure for heart disease and cancer. A recent report, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, offers some promising implications. Researchers found that diabetes patients following a low-fat, vegan diet not only lost weight, but also improved their blood sugar levels and cholesterol over the course of one year. This was the first study of its kind to assess the long-term effects of meat-free eating habits on glucose control. Whether you have diabetes or not, weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol are always good things to keep in check!
