United Kingdom-based vegan makeup artist Jessica Rose recently spoke about the importance of using only vegan products within the beauty industry. “As a makeup artist, it’s imperative to me that my products are cruelty-free,” Rose told local media outlet Gloucestershire Live. “We are all aware of the trauma and terror inflicted on animals so that we can look our best and I don’t want to contribute to, or buy into, that.” The makeup artist recently worked with fellow vegan models and vegan photographer Jessica Flavin on a photoshoot that highlighted vegan beauty products. “Cruelty-free makeup is makeup that you can feel really good about wearing,” Rose said. “My clients also suffer far less skin irritations when they switch to cruelty free skincare and makeup.” Rose urged brides and other people seeking professional makeup services to ask their artist to use only vegan products, a demand she said is often easily met within her industry. “Someone once told me, ‘You don’t do it for the round of applause, you do it because it’s the right thing to do,” Rose said. “When it comes to cruelty free makeup, it’s the right thing to do.” According to a recent report published by research firm THE NPD Group, sales of vegan beauty products in the UK increased by 38 percent from February 2017 to January 2018.
