Vegan ultramarathoner Adrian Irimiea ran the Virgin Money London Marathon Sunday to raise money for stray dogs in Romania. He finished the race in 2 hours and 55 minutes, placing 481st out of 44,000 participants in his category. In September, while participating in an ultramarathon through the mountains of Romania, a stray dog joined Irimiea during the competition. At one point, when Irimiea was lost, the stray dog—now adopted and named “Ultra”—led him back on track. The two finished the 65-mile race in third place. “I believe that Ultra taught me that animals are here to help us learn how to be humans, the real humans,” Irimiea told VegNews. “Only when you live in harmony with all creatures from Earth, you discover the true values of life.” In his efforts, Irimiea raised more than $1,200 during the 26-mile London Marathon for dog-rescue charity K-9 Angels, which has a shelter based in Romania.
