Valentine’s Day is the second busiest night for restaurants, according to the National Restaurant Association. Fortunately, vegans don’t have to miss out on the fun. We scoured the country to locate vegan and omnivore eateries that are offering a full vegan experience or vegan meal options on their love-themed menu. Here are nine places to consider taking your vegan sweetheart—even if your sweetheart is you.
Amada, Philadelphia, PA
Amada is famous for serving up Spanish tapas with a modern twist, but on Valentine’s Day the restaurant offers a menu tailored to vegetarians. The three-course meal and a dessert is $65 per person (with an additional $40 for wine pairings) and features tapas like an Ensalada Verde (green salad, asparagus, fava, avocado, and green beans) and Garbanzos Con Espinacas (chickpeas and spinach). Just let your server know you’re vegan so your meal can be prepared accordingly.
Brixx Pizza, locations in eastern United States
Besides the always-available vegan pizza options at this national eatery, the traditional and whole-wheat doughs are vegan, and vegan cheese is available at no extra cost. Plus, the restaurant is offering half-priced bottles of wine from February 10 through 16. Wine lists vary by location and can change, so be sure to visit its online wine menu ahead of time and then hit the VegNews Guide to Vegan Wine to make sure the wines are vegan-friendly.
Bell Book & Candle, New York City
This West Village eatery might remind you of a cozy library with walls lined with large chunks of classic literature. The best reading material here, though, is the menu. This year, Bell Book & Candle is offering a seven-course, all-vegan Valentine’s Day tasting menu. For $75 per person, you get everything on the menu, or for $200 for two, you can add a bottle of brut. The courses include specialties such as roasted cauliflower soup with toasted hazelnuts and black truffle; caramelized tofu with corn Bernaise and vegan caviar; and stuffed baby pumpkin with curried veg and crispy chickpeas.
Eden, Chicago, IL
If you happen to be in the Windy City, check out this new American restaurant which is celebrating Valentine’s Day with prix fixe menus for $125 per person or $150 with wine pairings. The vegetarian tasting menu includes five items such as roasted beets, cauliflower flatbread, potato and lentil samosas, lasagna, and pomegranate chocolate Pavlova. And while it’s labeled vegetarian, Chef Devon Quinn has assured us that he can accommodate any vegan who wants to experience the menu. Just let your server know.
Flower Child, locations across the United States
From February 14-17, this vegan-friendly eatery is offering a special meal deal. The $30 meal for two includes a choice of two proteins (such as organic, non-GMO tofu), three shareable sides, freshly juiced pomegranate Bellini mix, and handmade dark chocolate vegan truffles. The special deal is available for dine in and to-go.
Gotham Bar and Grill, New York City
New York City is one of the best destinations for vegans, and this Greenwich Village eatery is one reason why. Dine here on the day of love and you’ll find a four-course menu created specifically for vegans. While you listen to a live jazz trio, let your taste buds be wowed by celery root veloute, roasted red and yellow beet salad, roasted Romanesco cauliflower, and fresh fruit.
Stanford Inn by the Sea, Mendocino, CA
It’s all vegan all the time at the Stanford Inn’s charming restaurant. You don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy the special Valentine’s Day menu, which is being offered for $76 per person. You’ll have your choice of a starter (either Indian-spiced kale potato cakes or grilled asparagus flatbread), soup, salad, and an entrée (such as pepper Portobello steak with au jus, walnut and cauliflower ravioli, or grilled vegetable or wild mushroom crepe). The best part? Three desserts to tempt your tastebuds, including the most decadent-sounding banana split. If you don’t have room for all of those courses, the menu is also available a la carte.
Sugar Fang Vegan Bakery, Dallas, Texas
A bakery seems like the perfect place to visit on Valentine’s Day, but don’t expect only sweets at Sugar Fang. This bakery has partnered with BrainDead Brewing to feature a five-course vegan dinner paired with five BrainDead beers or a chef-selected kombucha for $55 per person. You’ll start off with a charcuterie board with smoked cashew gouda, lentil pate, beetroot hummus, herbed cashew cheese, and house-pickled veggies paired with a Belgian Strong Golden Ale. With options like that, we can’t imagine you would need further convincing.
Three Carrots, Indianapolis, IN
This iconic Indianapolis eatery serves vegan food from the heart(land), as its motto declares, and on Valentine’s Day, diners can opt for a special menu that will accompany its regular menu. The fancy offerings include a shared cheese plate with lentil pate, crostini, and pickled veggies; beet tartare with mustard greens, hazelnuts, red onions, and coffee vinaigrette; eggplant and shitake bordelaise with roasted carrots, creamy polenta, and parsnip puree; and port ice cream with candied pecans, cherries, chocolate granola, coffee syrup, and puff pastry.
