In a recent Philadelphia Magazine blog post, “Vegan Vogue: Why it’s Hip to Go Meat-Free in Philly,” contributor Lindsey Murray notes the rising number of plant-based food options in the City of Brotherly Love, whether full-on vegan eateries or restaurants that have added veg-friendly options. Dietician Deanna Segrave-Daly told the news source that the increased interest in locally sourced food has helped influence public favor of veganism and now more omnivores are seeing that eating vegan “doesn’t have to be a plate of rices with veggies.” Nicole Marquis, the owner of Philly’s cruelty-free fast food restaurant HipCityVeg, notes that establishments can bolster their business by catering to the taste buds of the varied demographic.
