Tofu is a fridge staple for many plant-based eaters, but if Hodo is your go-to brand, you may want to check your package. More than 10,000 cases of the popular tofu have been recalled over potential contamination with ink.
The recall affects Hodo’s Chili Crisp Lightly Fried Tofu, an eight-ounce product that comes lightly fried and seasoned with chili crisp. Hodo Inc., the Oakland, CA-based company behind the tofu, initiated the recall on August 7, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The affected tofu was distributed across 29 states, including California, New York, and New Jersey. The recall covers specific lot numbers and best-by dates ranging from May 15 through November 7, 2026, so not every package of Hodo Chili Crisp Lightly Fried Tofu is part of the recall.
