Lufthansa airlines recently announced that it has introduced a new policy prohibiting the transport of cats and dogs to laboratories. This announcement comes shortly after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) released photos of more than 50 dogs being flown to Charles River Laboratories, an animal testing facility in Scotland. Charles River Laboratories, which has facilities throughout the US and Europe, has been repeatedly fined mistreating animals, including negligence that resulted in the deaths of 33 monkeys. With this change in policy, Lufthansa joins Cathay Pacific and Qantas airlines, which have also banned animals from being transported to labs.
