The all-vegan VegCo Market, the first of its kind in Phoenix, is making its debut in early 2013. The market will house not only a grocery store, but also a deli, bakery, kitchen, classroom, and indoor garden, and offer cooking and gardening demonstrations. The supermarket is membership-based, however, if customers do not want to pay or cannot afford a membership fee, they have the opportunity to volunteer for the store’s local growers as an alternative. VegCo Market founder Heather Francois tells the Phoenix New Times, “This is great for lower-income families or those who simply wish to understand more about where their food comes from.”
